Joan Ellison
About
Joan Ellison is a distinguished soprano and voice faculty member at Cleveland Institute of Music who specializes in the Great American Songbook and classic vocal repertoire. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music with both Bachelor's and Master's degrees, Ellison has made a specialty of reviving Judy Garland's repertoire from her golden Hollywood years through live concerts, studio recordings, and television performances. She was invited by Michael Feinstein to serve as Editor of the Judy Garland Carnegie Hall Concert Restoration Project for the Garland Heirs Trust. Ellison made her Cleveland Pops Orchestra debut at Severance Hall in 2005 and has since performed over 70 symphony concerts coast-to-coast. She has appeared in major theatrical productions including Carousel, South Pacific, and The Sound of Music. As a voice teacher, Ellison instructs in Popular Voice, teaching styles varying from the Beatles to Beyoncรฉ, drawing from her professional performance background in both classical and contemporary music. She is a member of Actors' Equity.
