J.J. Penna
About
J.J. Penna is a vocal coach and educator specializing in recital and art-song instruction at Yale School of Music and the Yale Opera program. He holds a D.M.A. degree and has collaborated with renowned singers including Kathleen Battle, David Daniels, and Denyce Graves. Penna holds fellowships from prominent music centers including Tanglewood Music Center, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and San Francisco Opera Merola Program. He also teaches at the New England Conservatory, Ravinia Festival Steans Music Institute, and Carnegie Halls SongStudio. His teaching philosophy emphasizes joining the worlds of music and narrative while exploring repertoire creatively.
