Jeremy Manternach
About
Dr. Jeremy Manternach is an Associate Professor of Vocal and Choral Music Education at the University of Iowa School of Music and is the Music Education Area Head. He is a tenor vocalist and specialized expert in choral and vocal acoustics, conducting gesture, and singer efficiency. Dr. Manternach brings extensive teaching experience from his background as a high school vocal music teacher in Minnesota, where he received the district-wide Teacher Outstanding Performance Award recognizing excellence in music education. Throughout his career, he has conducted honor choirs across Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, and Kansas, and served as faculty with the St. Johns Boys Choir. He has also performed as a tenor soloist with the Minnesota Chorale and regional ensembles throughout the Midwest. His research and scholarship focus on choral and vocal acoustics, conducting gesture and singer efficiency, musician health and wellness, and teacher voice use. His scholarly publications appear in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Journal of Voice. Dr. Manternach holds professional memberships in ACDA, ICDA, NAfME, IMEA, PAVA, and VoiceCare Network.
