Jean Bernard Cerin
About
Jean Bernard Cerin is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Vocal Program in the Department of Music at Cornell University. A baritone with extensive training, he previously served on the faculty at Ithaca College and Lincoln University. Dr. Cerin completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Michigan, earned his Master of Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, and his Bachelor of Arts from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He is a multifaceted artist and scholar who performs extensively with leading early music ensembles across the United States, including Choral Arts Philadelphia, Piffaro Renaissance Wind Ensemble, and American Bach Soloists. Dr. Cerin has performed major roles with prestigious opera companies including Aspen Opera Theater, Opera Philadelphia, and Opera Ithaca. Beyond his performance career, he founded the Lisette Project in 2021, a research and performance platform focusing on early Haitian classical music. He also co-founded Kuwento Mizik in 2014, a culturally-diverse duo blending classical, folk, and traditional music. Recipient of the Philadelphia Musical Fund Society's Career Advancement Award (2022) and the Gerard Souzay Prize for French Mélodie (2018).
