J.D. Burnett serves as Division Head of Voice & Opera and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music, while also directing the UT Concert Chorale. With a varied career as a conductor, singer, and educator, Burnett brings extensive experience in vocal pedagogy and operatic instruction. He is the founding Artistic Director of Kinnara, a professional chamber choir in Atlanta, Georgia, and was appointed Artistic Director of Orpheus Chamber Singers in Dallas in March 2021. In addition to leading the voice division and choral ensembles at Butler, Burnett teaches graduate seminars in choral conducting and literature, as well as advanced choral music courses. His teaching philosophy emphasizes both technical vocal excellence and artistic expression within ensemble contexts. Previously serving as Associate Professor of Music and Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Burnett has established himself as a respected voice and choral teacher dedicated to developing the next generation of classical singers and conductors.
