Janna Baty
About
Janna Baty is an accomplished mezzo-soprano and Associate Professor Adjunct of Voice at Yale School of Music, where she has taught since 2008 and directs the undergraduate voice lessons program. Praised by the Boston Globe for her rich, viola-like tone and rapturous, luminous lyricism, Baty maintains an active international performance career with opera companies, orchestras, and festivals worldwide. She has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Boston Lyric Opera, among many others. Baty specializes in working with contemporary music and has collaborated with celebrated composers on new works. She is particularly skilled at working with singers who have undergone weight-loss surgery and provides specialized instruction for vocal recovery and technique development. Her students have been accepted to prestigious conservatories including Yale, Mannes, and San Francisco Conservatory.
