Dr. Janice Jarrett is the founder and director of Vocal Technique Studio in Tucson, Arizona, where she teaches private voice lessons, group sessions, and workshops. Dr. Jarrett holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from a major university, a Master of Music degree in World Music from Wesleyan University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Voice and Composition from Antioch College. She is an accomplished jazz singer, lyricist, arranger, band leader, speaker, and journalist who has taught and performed across the United States and internationally. Her teaching approach is based largely on Bel Canto principles, fostering healthy vocal habits through warmups that encourage relaxed open throat singing. Dr. Jarrett's Vocal Technique Studio provides comprehensive voice training emphasizing healthy singing habits that increase range and enhance intonation, resonance, and ease of singing for all voice types and genres. Her extensive background in ethnomusicology, world music, and jazz informs her versatile teaching methodology. With over 15 years of studio operation, she has helped hundreds of students develop secure, healthy technique across classical, jazz, world music, and contemporary styles.
