Janet Hopkins is an Emeritus Associate Professor of Voice at the University of South Carolina School of Music, where she has taught since 2008. A renowned mezzo-soprano with an extensive international performance career, Hopkins spent fifteen seasons as a principal soloist at The Metropolitan Opera, including roles across a vast operatic repertoire. She debuted as a soprano at The Metropolitan Opera during the 1991-1992 season in The Ghost of Versailles and later transitioned to mezzo-soprano. The Washington Post described her distinctive voice as 'angel-voiced.' Beyond opera, she is an accomplished recitalist and chamber musician, having toured internationally and performed at Carnegie Hall. In 2007, she released 'ARIA,' an album of Italian love songs that garnered critical acclaim from major publications. Hopkins is known for making classical music accessible through her innovative 'The Diva Dialogues,' a unique recital of opera, musical theatre, and humor designed to educate, entertain, and bring the classics to a level where all may enjoy them in a relaxed atmosphere.
