Jan McDaniel is a Professor of Vocal Coaching and conductor of the Oklahoma City University Opera and Musical Theater Company, with 25+ years of experience at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. A distinguished musician, Jan holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Midwestern State University and a Master of Music in Musicology from the University of North Texas, where he completed doctoral coursework and qualifying examinations in Philosophy. He was a Rotary International Graduate Scholar at the Nordwest Deutsche Musikakademie in Detmold, Germany. Jan has directed over 30 opera and musical theater productions at OCU, including the 2013 production of Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, which won Best Opera Production for Division III in the National Opera Association's annual competition. He has performed as an accompanist and coach with renowned artists including Kelli O'Hara, Kristin Chenoweth, Marquita Lister, and other internationally recognized opera singers. Jan serves as musical director for Painted Sky Opera and Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and appears regularly as a guest conductor for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. His coaching students are working worldwide in opera houses and on stages across Broadway and the country.
