James Taylor is an internationally celebrated tenor and accomplished voice educator based in Bon Air, Virginia, in the Richmond area. With a Master of Music degree from Yale University and extensive professional performance experience, he brings world-class expertise to his students. Taylor has served as Director of Opera at Drake University and the University of Alabama, and has been on the music faculties of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and the University of Virginia. His impressive operatic repertoire includes major roles such as Siegmund in Die Walkure, the title role in Lohengrin and Parsifal, Don Jose in Carmen, Manrico in Il Trovatore, Cavaradossi in Tosca, and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. As a baritone earlier in his career, he performed thirty-three roles including the title roles in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Le Nozze di Figaro. James Taylor is associated with Capitol Opera Richmond and operates James Taylor Studios, providing private and theatrical voice lessons in classical, musical theatre, jazz, and pop styles. His studio offers a personalized approach to singing lessons, tailoring instruction to each students individual needs and goals, with comprehensive instruction in vocal technique, tone production, breath control, and expression.
