Dr. James L. Brown is Professor of Music - Voice and Coordinator of Vocal Studies at Pacific Lutheran University, where he chairs the vocal studies program and directs opera productions. He maintains an eclectic career of singing, teaching, stage direction, and conducting. Dr. Brown has performed at prestigious venues including New York City Opera, New Orleans Opera, Seattle Town Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, and internationally in Spoleto, Italy. He has appeared as concert soloist at the Aspen Music Festival, Ravinia Festival (Steans Institute), and in the Pacific Northwest has performed tenor solos in Messiah with the Tacoma Symphony and Mozart's Requiem with Central Washington University. His students have pursued advanced studies at Indiana University, The Juilliard School, University of Michigan, Oberlin Conservatory, Yale University, and have performed on stages from the Metropolitan Opera to Opernhaus Zรผrich. Dr. Brown directed opera for ten years with Vashon Opera and produces regular performances with Pacific Northwest Opera and Seattle Opera's Education programs. He received a Production Grant from the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music in New York.
