About
Ho Eui Holly Bewlay, D.M.A., is a Professor of Music and Vocal Area Coordinator at SUNY Buffalo State University, where she coordinates the voice program, teaches applied voice, and directs vocal pedagogy instruction. An accomplished Korean American soprano, Dr. Bewlay has extensive performance experience with numerous opera companies, orchestras, chamber ensembles, and universities including the Eastman Opera Theatre, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, Opera Rochester, and Oberlin in Italy. She received her Bachelor of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Dr. Bewlay is an active researcher in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and has authored the chapter "Building Healthy Vocal Habits" in The First-Year Music Major Strategies for Success published by Routledge. She has received multiple honors including the Outstanding Undergraduate Course award for Service Learning, Educator of the Year from OperaBuff NY, and fellowships as a SUNY Applied Learning fellow, SUNY Service-Learning fellow, and Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) fellow. Dr. Bewlay is a dedicated community activist who has extended her teaching mission to underserved populations, bringing her students to work with homeless individuals and refugees through community health centers.
