Heidi Grant Murphy
About
Heidi Grant Murphy is a Professor of Practice (Voice) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. An accomplished operatic soprano, Murphy has been described as a shimmering soprano with enchanting stage presence and represents one of the outstanding vocal talents of her generation. Originally from Bellingham, Washington, she studied at Western Washington University and Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where she won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She was subsequently engaged by Maestro James Levine to participate in the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Her career includes performances with major opera companies and orchestras worldwide. She has appeared in numerous opera roles at the Metropolitan Opera and orchestral engagements with ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, and New York Philharmonic. Her discography spans multiple labels including Koch International, Deutsche Grammophon, Delos, and Arabesque, including recordings of classical and contemporary works. Grant Murphy has been featured on NPR programs and currently resides in Bloomington with her husband, pianist Kevin Murphy, and four children.
