Garrett Sorenson
About
Garrett Sorenson is one of Louisville's premiere voice instructors with an active international career in opera and performance. A Grammy-award-winning American tenor, Sorenson recently completed an extended run of Terrence McNally's Master Class on Broadway opposite Tyne Daly, which received a 2012 Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play. He is a graduate of the Lindemann Young Artists Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera and made his company debut as Itulbo in Bellini's rarely-performed Il pirata, opposite Renee Fleming. Sorenson later performed Cassio in the opening night gala of Otello conducted by James Levine. He was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition's Southwest Region and was named a winner at the 2003 George London Foundation Competition and a Sara Tucker Study Grant Winner, followed by a 2004 Richard Tucker Foundation Career Grant. Sorenson is a graduate of Texas Tech University and currently resides in Kentucky. His teaching approach tailors technique to individuals regardless of singing style, age, or experience level, with emphasis on positivity, open communication, and results-based instruction.
