Everett McCorvey
About
Dr. Everett McCorvey is an internationally acclaimed American classical tenor, conductor, and professor of voice at the University of Kentucky, where he holds the prestigious Lexington Opera Society Endowed Chair in Opera Studies. Since joining UK's faculty in 1991, he has distinguished himself as a leading voice pedagogue and operatic performer, with a distinguished career spanning performances on some of the world's most prestigious stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Kennedy Center, Aspen Music Festival, Radio City Music Hall, and venues throughout Spain, Italy, England, Austria, Japan, China, and numerous other countries across five continents. Dr. McCorvey is the Founder and Music Director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, a professional vocal group of 24 singers dedicated to preserving and celebrating African-American spiritual traditions. As Director and Executive Producer of the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre since 1997, he has produced over 40 operas and mentored numerous students who have gone on to win prestigious national competitions, including the National Metropolitan Opera Auditions. His recent appointment as Chair of the Kentucky Arts Council by Governor Andy Beshear marks his significant impact on the arts at the state level. Dr. McCorvey's teaching philosophy centers on developing healthy vocal technique combined with artistic excellence and cultural awareness.
