Ellen Trygstad
About
Ellen Trygstad is an experienced voice and piano teacher based in Bozeman, Montana. She holds a B.A. degree in Music from St. Olaf College in Minnesota and completed graduate level classes in Vocal Pedagogy and Diction at Montana State University. Ellen has studied voice, piano, and violin privately in New York, Oregon, and Italy. She worked as an Artist-in-Residence in Montana for six years, collaborating with elementary school teachers and children to create student-written and student-performed early-American history operas. She has also worked as a freelance music editor in New York City. In her teaching, Ellen focuses on exercises, diction, and repertoire in Classical, lyrical Broadway, and Folksong styles to help develop comfortable, effective breathing, tone, vocal line, pitch accuracy, and expressiveness. Her lessons are tailored to individual need, age, voice type, and experience. Ellen has been teaching at the Music Arts Center in Bozeman since 2009 and has professional experience with choir, opera chorus, and solo vocal performances.
