Dr. Karen Jensen
About
Dr. Karen Jensen is an award-winning professor of voice and vocal pedagogy at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba, where she previously served as Associate Dean and graduate chair. She received her doctorate from the University of London, U.K., the Performer's and Teacher's Licentiates from the Royal Academy of Music, and Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, establishing her credentials as both performer and pedagogue. Dr. Jensen received the International Award for Innovation in Teaching and Technology for her multimedia CD-ROM diction text: A Singer's Guide to the IPA, which has become a valuable resource for singers worldwide. She was a founding member of the vocal avant-garde electronic group Electric Phoenix and has performed in major concert halls of London, Rome, Turin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, bringing extensive European performance experience to her teaching. Dr. Jensen has created innovative software for the study of singer's diction and teaches vocal pedagogy at the University of Manitoba, training the next generation of voice teachers. Her teaching combines rigorous technical training with cutting-edge pedagogical approaches, and she is known for her expertise in IPA and diction across multiple languages.
