Dr. Karen Esquivel is a Senior Instructor of Voice and Director of the Opera Ensemble at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. She is a contralto born in the U.S.A. of Costa Rican and Mexican descent. She obtained her BME and Masters degree in Voice/Opera Theater at the University of Nebraska, an MM in Opera Production from Florida State University, and her Doctorate in Voice Performance (DMA) from FSU in 2009. She has performed as the contralto soloist in major works including Handels Messiah, Beethovens Ninth Symphony, Schuberts Mass in C, Vivaldis Gloria, Dvoraks Requiem, Pergolesis Magnificat, Fallas El Amor Brujo, Stravinskys Les Noces, Duruflé Requiem, Rossinis Stabat Mater, and Prokofievs Alexander Nevsky. As the UO Opera Ensembles only full-time employee, she not only directs productions but also facilitates promotions and donor relations.
