Dr. Alyssa Becker
About
Dr. Alyssa Becker is a Teaching Associate of Voice at Drake University's Department of Music. A mezzo-soprano with an international performance background, she has appeared in operatic productions across China, the Baltics, and the United States. Her operatic roles include characters in Albert Herring, Le Nozze di Figaro, Der Rosenkavalier, and Falstaff. She made her Minnesota Opera debut in 2019-2020 as a chorister in Elektra and Edward Tulane. As a concert vocalist, she has performed as a featured soloist with multiple ensembles including The Concord Band and The University of Minnesota orchestras. Dr. Becker emphasizes cross-training singers so they are prepared to sing any style of music. Her pedagogical research focuses on vibrato control in musical theater crossover singing, presented at 2021 conferences with The Voice Foundation and Voice and Speech Trainers Association. She maintains a private studio and has taught at the University of Minnesota, Boston Arts Academy, and Boston Conservatory institutions. Her students have gained acceptance to collegiate programs including Berklee College of Music and the University of Minnesota.
