About
Dolora Zajick is an internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano opera singer and Artist in Residence and Teacher of Graduate Voice at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Music. Celebrated by Variety as a 'force of nature,' she is renowned for her mastery of dramatic Verdi mezzo-soprano roles, including iconic characters such as Azucena in Il Trovatore, Amneris in Aida, and Eboli in Don Carlo. She performed at major international opera houses worldwide, working with renowned conductors like James Levine and Riccardo Muti. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1988 and retired from performing in 2020, with her final performances at that same venue. She holds undergraduate and Master's degrees in Music from the University of Nevada and completed additional studies at Manhattan School of Music in New York. She was trained under Ted Puffer, conductor and former Nevada Opera Artistic Director. Beyond performance, she founded the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in 2006, a specialized training program offering intensive 3-week summer sessions for singers with distinctive vocal types, preparing them for international stage performance. Her discography includes recordings on Sony Classical, EMI, and Decca with major orchestras and conductors.
