About
Diane Atherton is a soprano praised by The Washington Post as 'silvery and winsome.' A British native with over 20 years of teaching experience including 10+ years in Washington DC, she graduated from Huddersfield University (UK) and earned a Post-Graduate Diploma in Vocal Training from Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London. She completed Somatic Voice Work Level 1 & II at Shenandoah University and is a member of NATS. Diane has performed at prestigious venues including Kennedy Center, The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and major concert halls across the British Isles. She formerly served as Professor of Vocal Studies at American University, St. Alban's School, and National Cathedral School, and currently teaches for The Children's Chorus of Washington. Her teaching emphasizes fun and solid technique using body mapping, IPA system, and Italian/German vocal schools. Students have advanced to Oxford, Cambridge, Royal Academy of Music, Brown, and Stanford. She maintains studios in Washington DC and Silver Spring, MD.
