Deborah Montgomery

Deborah Montgomery (Montgomery-Cove) is a Professor Emerita of Voice at Ithaca College with an accomplished career as a soprano, voice teacher, and vocal pedagogy expert. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Montgomery studied voice under recognized vocalists including Carol Webber, Charles Lynam, Lindsey Christiansen, Grace Wilson, and Judith Oas, and received collaborative training from multiple accompanists and opera direction instruction from experienced directors. She holds Level 1 certification in Somatic Voicework and currently serves as President of the Central New York Finger Lakes Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. As a performer, she is an accomplished soprano with extensive experience in opera, oratorio, and recital. Her operatic roles include Adele in Die Fledermaus, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro. She has performed with Virginia Opera Association, C.W. Post Summer Opera Festival, and Ithaca Opera Association. Her oratorio repertoire includes Brahms Requiem, Handel's Messiah, and Bach's B minor Mass. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1989 and has performed internationally in Ireland, Germany, and Austria. She has also performed with regional orchestras including Syracuse Symphony and West Virginia Symphony. Prior to Ithaca College, she taught at Appalachian State University, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and Northern Michigan University.
