Dawn Padula
About
Dr. Dawn Padula is Professor of Voice and Director of Vocal Studies at the University of Puget Sound School of Music, where she chairs the Vocal Studies Area and directs the Opera Theater. She joined the faculty in 2009 after teaching at Sam Houston State University in Texas. A versatile mezzo-soprano, Dr. Padula performs opera, oratorio, musical theatre, jazz, and classical concert repertoire. Her opera roles include Carmen, Azucena in Il Trovatore, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri, and the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas. In the Pacific Northwest, she has performed as a principal artist with Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Tacoma Opera, Vashon Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, Olympia Opera Theater, Kitsap Opera, Concert Opera of Seattle, Bellevue Opera, and Opera Pacifica. Her original research on training tenor and baritone voices from a mezzo-soprano teacher perspective has been presented at the International Voice Foundation Symposium and NATS National Conference. In 2020, she received Puget Sound's Tom A. Davis Teaching Award for excellence in instruction.
