David Holley

About

David Holley is Director of Opera at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music, a position he has held since 1992. He is also General and Artistic Director of Greensboro Opera, where he was appointed in 2013 and promoted in 2018. Holley is a skilled director and performer who has performed leading lyric tenor roles throughout the United States and Canada. Under his leadership at UNCG, the Opera Theatre has earned exceptional recognition, winning seven first-place and five second-place honors from the National Opera Association annual Opera Production Competition. Holley produced, directed, and wrote the libretto for the world premiere of Picnic, an opera by renowned American composer Libby Larsen, which was commissioned by the UNCG School of Music in 2009. He has directed numerous professional productions including Don Giovanni, Carmen, La bohème, Porgy and Bess, and Die Fledermaus. He served as President of the National Opera Association from 2014 to 2016. Holley is dedicated to fostering musical excellence and training the next generation of opera performers and musicians.
