David Cody
About
David Cody is a Professor of Voice, Opera, and Musical Theatre at the University of Montana School of Music in Missoula. He is the Coordinator of Musical Theatre and the founder and director of Zootown Cabaret, a popular vocal performance ensemble established in 2010. Dr. Cody teaches applied voice lessons to UM music students as an active performing artist-teacher, specializing in voice studio pedagogy, voice master class, and advanced vocal diction. He provides instruction across multiple vocal genres and styles, from classical opera and art song to contemporary musical theatre and cabaret performance. Zootown Cabaret, which he oversees, is an annual musical theatre revue that explores contemporary themes through music and theatrical performance, providing performance opportunities for UM students in musical theatre and vocal studies. Dr. Cody brings extensive experience in vocal pedagogy, performance coaching, and ensemble direction. His teaching approach emphasizes technical vocal excellence, artistic interpretation, and performance confidence. He mentors University of Montana vocal and musical theatre students in developing comprehensive musical and performance skills for both academic studies and professional careers.
