Daniel Shigo is a renowned voice teacher and vocal pedagogue based on Manhattan's Upper West Side near Lincoln Center, specializing in Bel Canto vocal technique. He holds a Master's degree in performance and vocal pedagogy from Westminster Choir College in Princeton and a Bachelor's degree in music education. Daniel studied under Margaret Harshaw, a legendary Wagnerian soprano who had trained under Anna EugĂ©nie Schoen-RenĂ© at Juilliard. His distinguished performing career included making his baritone soloist debut in FaurĂ©'s Requiem with Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, followed by an impressive 23-season career with New York City Opera where he performed 64 solo roles across 104 productions, and 7 seasons at the Metropolitan Opera. He has also performed with Opera Orchestra of New York, OpĂ©ra Français de New York, and the New York Philharmonic. Daniel is a leading expert in historical vocal pedagogy, particularly the Garcia and Lamperti singing schools, and incorporates audio-psycho-phonology principles from Alfred Tomatis' work into his teaching. He founded VOICE_PrintsâJournal of the New York Singing Teachers Association and discovered Hermann Klein's extraordinary singing manual featuring gramophone recordings from the Garcia School.
