Courtenay Budd
About
Courtenay Budd is a soprano whose voice has been described as "a voice for connoisseurs" and who was dubbed a "superhero soprano" by the Boston Globe after performing David Del Tredici's 2 1/2-hour epic Child Alice with Boston Modern Orchestra Project. She has been on the faculty at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York since 2007, serving as Adjunct Artist in Music. Courtenay holds degrees including a BA from Sewanee: The University of the South and an MM from Westminster College. A First Prize Winner of Young Concert Artists Auditions, she has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the National Symphony, and at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. Her extensive repertoire ranges from Handel and Bach to bel canto opera and contemporary works, and she has performed with numerous orchestras and opera companies throughout the United States and internationally. She was honored with the 2004 Distinguished Young Alumnus Award from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Since 2014, she has served as Artistic Director of the celebrated annual "Friends of Wadsworth" spring chamber music concert in Newnan, Georgia, carrying on the legacy of her mentor Charles Wadsworth. Her teaching brings together her exceptional technical skills, broad repertoire knowledge, and commitment to both traditional and contemporary vocal literature.
