Cordara Harper
About
Dr. Cordara Harper is Assistant Professor of Music Education, Choir Director, Music Education Coordinator, and Vocal Music Coordinator at Grambling State University. He is the first Assistant Professor of Music/Choir Director at Grambling State to hold a doctorate while serving in the role. Dr. Harper earned his PhD from the University of Memphis and grew up in the small rural town of Cove City, North Carolina, becoming the first in his immediate family to earn a bachelors, masters, and doctorate. He is the founder of Cordara Harper Music Solutions, LLC and has served as a coach, teaching private and group voice and piano lessons. When Dr. Harper first arrived at Grambling, the choir consisted of about 18 students but has since grown threefold to over 60 students. Under his direction, the Grambling State University Choir was named the Best University Choir at the Sound Awards in 2023. The choir celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022, honoring its rich legacy. Dr. Harper was recognized by Yamahas 40 Under 40 list for music education excellence in 2025. He is a dynamic educator dedicated to growing music programs and developing students vocal abilities across classical, gospel, and choral traditions.
