Colleen Beucher
About
Dr. Colleen Cole Beucher is an Assistant Professor in the Voice program at the University of Florida School of Music, where she teaches Applied Voice and directs Quest 1: Artistic Revelation. A lyric soprano with distinguished performance credentials, Dr. Beucher joined the UF faculty in Fall 2024, bringing extensive experience as both a performer and educator. Her performance expertise and research interests include 19th- and 20th-century opera, African American and African Diaspora art song, and Catalan art song, reflecting her commitment to expanding vocal repertoire and championing diverse musical voices. Throughout her career, Dr. Beucher has earned multiple awards at the 2024 and 2022 George Shirley Vocal Competition, including Second Place in the Pre-Professional Division, First Place Soprano, First Place Operatic Aria, Willis Patterson Art Song Prize, and the Encouragement Prize for Spiritual. Her notable operatic roles include Suor Angelica, the Vixen in Janáček’s work, Cendrillon, Euridice, and Rosalinde. Prior to joining UF, Dr. Beucher held teaching positions at the University of Northern Alabama, University of Michigan, and Ball State University. She specializes in Western classical vocal technique while remaining adept at teaching and performing across various genres including musical theater, jazz, and contemporary commercial music. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes developing each student’s unique vocal strengths while expanding their repertoire across different musical styles and traditions.
