Claudia Brown is an accomplished singer and conductor serving as Associate Teaching Professor of Choral Music and Voice at the University at Buffalo, where she directs the university's premier choral ensembles including the UB Chorus, Choir, and Chamber Singers. A soprano originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she brings a wealth of international performance and teaching experience to her position. Ms. Brown earned her Master of Music in Choral Studies from the University of Cambridge, where she studied conducting under acclaimed British musicians Stephen Layton, Graham Ross, and Mark Williams. She also holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Duquesne University, demonstrating her dual expertise in both vocal performance and choral conducting. During her time at Cambridge, she was a member of King's Voices, the distinguished mixed-voice choir of King's College, with whom she toured internationally in the Netherlands and France. Ms. Brown began her private instruction career in 2011 and has since developed a comprehensive teaching practice that includes voice instruction and choral music education. Her research interests focus on the intersection of music and theology, particularly examining choral aesthetics and the compositional works of Olivier Messiaen. She has had extensive international teaching experience, serving students and communities across South India, Honduras, Malaysia, Germany, and the Philippines. Brown teaches courses including voice lessons and Music and the Divine, integrating her scholarly interests with practical vocal instruction.
