Christine R. Howlett is a Professor of Music on the George Sherman Dickinson Chair at Vassar College, where she has been a faculty member since 2003. She serves as Director of Choral Activities, directing both the Vassar College Women's Chorus and the acclaimed Vassar College Choir. In addition to conducting choral ensembles, Christine teaches private voice lessons and musicianship skills including International Phonetic Alphabet to voice students. Her choral ensembles have performed at prestigious venues including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, with international tours spanning Cuba, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Turkey, and Uganda. Christine is the Artistic Director of Cappella Festiva, an auditioned choral ensemble with a 45-year history of performing in the Hudson Valley region. In 2023, she was named music director of the Greenwich Choral Society, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025-2026. She previously served as Chair of the Music Department from 2016-2020 and resumed that role in Fall 2021. Her scholarly work includes publishing an edition of Francesco Gasparini's Mass for Five Voices with A-R Editions, and she actively commissions contemporary choral works.
