Chihiro Asano
About
Chihiro Asano is a Boston-based mezzo-soprano from Tokyo, Japan with an exceptional background in vocal performance and pedagogy. She is a voice faculty member at the New England Conservatory's Expanded Education Division and teaches at Newton Music Academy, where she specializes in healthy, flexible vocal technique and clear musical storytelling. Chihiro graduated at the top of her class from Tokyo College of Music with a B.M. in Vocal Performance. She earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal Pedagogy and a Graduate Diploma in Opera Performance from the New England Conservatory (2022-2023), where she studied advanced vocal training and operatic performance. Chihiro is a two-time Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition district winner, winning in Puerto Rico (2023) and Iowa (2025), and placed second in the Midwest Region in 2025. She has performed with prestigious opera companies including Boston Lyric Opera, MassOpera, and White Snake Projects. Her teaching approach incorporates voice science principles and she has presented research on Japanese female vocals at the 2021 PAVA (Pan American Vocology Association) Conference. She leads aria seminars addressing formants and vocal techniques for international voice trainers.
