Catherine Gardner
About
Dr. Catherine Gardner is a soprano and Assistant Professor in the Vocal Studies Department at East Carolina University, where she has taught since 2018. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto and studied at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Western Ontario. Gardner brings over a decade of teaching experience from the Beckett School at Laurier University in Canada. As a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, she is active in mentoring students who have received various awards and gained admission to prestigious North American music programs. Her teaching focuses on vocal technique, diction, and opera preparation. Dr. Gardner teaches studio voice and graduate diction classes while assisting with opera productions. Her research on pregnancy’s impact on classical singers has garnered media attention from classical music outlets. She is an active adjudicator for Conservatory Canada and the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators’ Association. As a performer, she has appeared in major operatic productions and extensive art song performances.
