Cary Fridley is an Appalachian singer, bassist, and educator from Asheville, North Carolina, with over 25 years of teaching and performing experience in Western North Carolina. She holds a Master's degree in Music Education from UNC-Greensboro and specializes in traditional country, blues, folk, and jazz. Cary is a Fine Arts Faculty member at A-B Tech in Asheville and serves as the music director for the Swannanoa Valley Community Chorus at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. She is an instructor at three Junior Appalachian Musician (JAM) Programs in Black Mountain, Haywood County, and Buncombe County. Cary offers private lessons in guitar, bass, banjo, and folk singing, blending concepts from classical music education with learning by ear and using traditional methods passed down in mountain culture. Originally from Virginia's Alleghany Highlands, she was lead vocalist and guitarist with The Freight Hoppers from 1994-1999, traveling internationally and creating three albums. As a published songwriter and recording artist, Cary has released three solo CDs and has taught at Swannanoa Old-time Week for multiple years.
