Carol Vaness
About
Carol Vaness is a Distinguished Professor of Music (Voice) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she works with individual students and conducts opera workshop classes. A world-renowned soprano from San Diego, Vaness began her illustrious operatic career at New York City Opera (1979-1983) and has since performed on major international stages. She is particularly renowned for her interpretations of Mozart heroines and is considered the definitive performer of the role of Tosca. She famously performed the title role at the Metropolitan Opera in 2004 opposite Luciano Pavarotti in what became the legendary tenor's final operatic performance. Her career includes appearances at premiere venues including the Paris Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, and Salzburg Festival, alongside notable television performances. A number of her Indiana University students have gone on to win major nationwide and international competitions and secure positions in young artist programs.
