Cara Gilbertson
About
Cara Gilbertson is a Canadian mezzo-soprano and passionate music educator based in Ottawa. She holds a Master of Music degree and is known for her distinctive nightingale-like voice and commitment to nurturing authentic artistic expression. As a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa since 2007, she brings over two decades of professional experience to her teaching. She has performed as a soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, is Artist-in-Residence at St John's Anglican Church in Ottawa, and has toured throughout Europe with the Ottawa Bach Choir. Since 2008, Cara has served as Founder and Director of The Bytown School of Singing. She currently serves as President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing - National Capital Region and as Performance Specialist & Vocal Coach for the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes unlocking each student's inner and unique voice, building community through music, and helping singers develop confidence in their authentic expression. She travels throughout Canada as an adjudicator and masterclass facilitator.
