About

Cailin Marcel Manson is a distinguished baritone and conductor, and newly appointed Chair of Vocal Studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. A Philadelphia native with a 20-year international career, Manson has performed with major orchestras and opera companies across Europe and Asia, appearing as a soloist in renowned churches and cathedrals worldwide. Critics have praised his performances for their "commanding tone" and his ability to "bring the internal drama of the music to life." In March 2023, he made an acclaimed Carnegie Hall conducting debut with MidAmerica Productions, leading Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem, becoming only the second Black conductor in the venue's history to conduct this masterpiece. Beyond his Longy position, Manson serves as Professor of Practice in Music and Director of Music Performance at Clark University, where he teaches conducting, repertoire, and diction courses. He also serves as Conductor-in-Residence at Walnut Hill School for the Arts and Music Director of Opera Vermont. His comprehensive experience spans opera and concert performance, choral conducting and direction, vocal instruction and performance preparation, and music festival direction and artistic leadership.
