Brian DeMaris
About
Brian DeMaris is a Professor and Artistic Director of Music Theatre and Opera at Arizona State University's School of Music, Dance and Theatre. A versatile conductor and composer, DeMaris is a three-time American Prize winner in Opera and Musical Theater Conducting. He has served as Principal Conductor of Anchorage Opera and Music Director of Mill City Summer Opera, conducting performances at prestigious venues and companies nationwide. His career includes conducting world premieres of contemporary works including Stefan Weisman's Darkling and Peter Ash's The Golden Ticket. As a dedicated educator, DeMaris has taught at Aspen Music Festival, New England Conservatory, and Lawrence University. His students have gone on to perform on Broadway and at opera companies globally. As a composer, DeMaris released an album titled Gratitude in 2022, featuring his art songs for voice and piano. Prior to ASU, he served as Director of Opera and Musical Theatre at Ithaca College and currently serves as Arizona Governor of the National Opera Association.
