Betsy Wise is a musician, educator, and community leader based in Bozeman, Montana, with over 25 years of experience teaching music, performing as a singer-songwriter, and leading vocal empowerment initiatives. Her musical journey began with classical piano and family harmony singing, evolving into songwriting inspired by artists like Joni Mitchell and Nancy Griffith. Betsy holds degrees in Art and Elementary Education. She runs Songbird Studio at 17 South 5th Avenue in downtown Bozeman, where she teaches voice, guitar, ukulele, songwriting, and claw hammer banjo to students of all ages and abilities. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes student empowerment and the joy of making music. Betsy has been a member of the long-standing Bozeman rock band Hooligans since 1989 and performs as part of the duo Betsy and Johnny with John Sanders on upright bass. She has led the Bozeman chapter of the Montana Women's Chorus, a non-auditioned community chorus focused on voice empowerment, since 2010. Betsy has released two CDs: "Betsy Wise" (2019) and "First Love." She also coordinates Celebrating Women, an annual women's retreat at Boulder Hot Springs.
