About
Dr. Bethany Plissey, D.M.A., is the Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, where she serves as the advisor for the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble. As an accomplished choral director and vocal educator, Dr. Plissey specializes in leading vocal ensembles and teaching contemporary popular vocal forms including vocal jazz, a cappella singing, pop music, and musical theater. With extensive experience in choral music and ensemble direction, she has directed various choral performances including collaborative concerts with local high schools and prestigious holiday concerts featuring the Coastal Carolina University Choir. Her scholarly contributions include work with the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) as the College and University Repertoire and Resources Chair for the Vermont region, where she has reviewed college and university choir repertoire. Dr. Plissey has also studied international choral traditions, spending time in Riga, Latvia interviewing conductors and hearing their choirs. Her teaching emphasizes the development of strong vocal technique, ensemble blend, and the expression of diverse musical styles from classical to contemporary genres.
