Benjamin Butterfield is an acclaimed tenor and Professor who is Head of Voice at the School of Music at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Since 2006, while continuing his singing career, Benjamin has been teaching voice to the next generation at UVic, where he became a full professor in 2016. Praised by The New York Times as "clarion-voiced and vibrant," Benjamin Butterfield has maintained an active performing career for over 30 years throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In the autumn of 2018, Butterfield was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the country's highest academic honour, and in 2019, Benjamin was named a distinguished honouree of Opera Canada, receiving a "Ruby" award for his exemplary contributions to the industry through his performances and teaching. Benjamin Butterfield studied voice with Selena James at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He earned his Lic MUS from McGill University in 1991. His distinguished career combines world-class performance with dedicated teaching, bringing his extensive professional experience to developing the next generation of classical vocalists at the University of Victoria.
