Barry Johnson
About
Barry Johnson is Associate Professor of Music - Voice at Pacific Lutheran University, where he has taught for over 30 years since joining as adjunct lecturer in 1989. He enjoys a successful career as an opera singer, stage director, concert performer, and voice teacher. Johnson has performed in over 20 productions at Seattle Opera and appeared as a guest artist with numerous western opera companies including Tacoma Opera, Opera Colorado, Anchorage Opera, and Portland Opera. His extensive operatic repertoire includes major baritone roles such as Figaro, Mercutio, Marcello, Papageno, the Pirate King, and Prince Ottokar. As a concert soloist, he has performed with orchestras throughout the Pacific Northwest including Seattle Symphony, Symphony Tacoma, Yakima Symphony, Northwest Sinfonietta, and Orchestra Seattle. His professional stage directing credits include Puccini's La Bohème and Tosca, Mozart's Così fan tutte, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and works by Lehár, Menotti, and Pasatieri. At PLU, he serves as Co-Director of Opera Production/Workshop and Director of Knights Chorus.
