Alexis Davis-Hazell
About
Dr. Alexis Davis-Hazell is Assistant Professor of Voice and Lyric Diction at the University of Alabama School of Music, where she also serves as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies. A mezzo-soprano, Dr. Davis-Hazell has performed over 130 times in productions of Porgy and Bess across international venues including the Dresden SemperOper, Hamburgische Staatsoper, and San Francisco Opera. She has appeared with regional opera companies including Arizona Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Mississippi Opera, Opera Birmingham, and Cincinnati Opera in roles such as Amneris, Suzuki, and Azucena. Dr. Davis-Hazell holds a BM from Temple University, MM from Arizona State University, and DMA from Arizona State University. Her scholarship focuses on lyric diction pedagogy, African American women composers vocal literature, and the intersection of Blackface Minstrelsy and voice performance practice. She is currently serving as National President-Elect of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
