Alan Darling
About
Alan Darling is a renowned Scottish pianist and vocal coach at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, where he serves as Senior Lecturer in the Voice and Opera department. He teaches vocal coaching and repertoire studies courses, including specialized classes on American Songs and Russian Song. Darling is praised for his sensitive and nuanced accompanying and has collaborated with major opera singers including Jamie Barton, Nicole Cabell, Brandon Jovanovich, Christiane Karg, Amanda Majeski, Susanna Phillips, Matthew Polenzani, Amber Wagner, and Erin Wall. He performed more than fifty song recitals at Ravinia's prestigious Steans Musical Institute from 1993-2005. Darling has been a master teacher at San Francisco Opera's Merola Program since its inception and served on the faculty at Yale University from 1993-1998. As a vocal coach, he supports singers from major companies including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala Milan, and the Royal Opera House London. He studied art song accompaniment and vocal repertoire with internationally renowned artists.
