Akela Franklin
About
Akela Franklin is a versatile soprano and music educator based in Boston. She is the Voice Department Chair and faculty member at Brookline Music School, where she teaches voice and music classes for students of all ages. Originally from California, she is a classically trained soprano and voice teacher with additional background in musical theatre, jazz, pop/contemporary, and instrumental music. She has been teaching privately for over 7 years, and her students range widely in terms of age, vocal goals, and musical interests. Akela is pursuing a teaching certification in the Alexander Technique at Boston Conservatory at Berklee and has taught for numerous local organizations including Community Music Center of Boston, Boston City Singers, and Children's Music Center of Jamaica Plain. In 2021, she was awarded the Marilla MacDill Prize for Teaching Excellence and Community Service by Community Music Center of Boston.
