About

Agatha Carubia is a distinguished artist and award-winning soprano with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from The Juilliard School. She is a Juilliard-trained voice teacher, author, mentor to teachers, devotional singer and yoga teacher/practitioner who lives and teaches in Santa Barbara, California. From New York City, Agatha taught there for years before heading to Santa Barbara in 1981, where she settled and began teaching at Music Academy of the West and privately. Her specific attention to, and illumination of the physical body as vocal instrument has been fortified by being an avid yoga practitioner and RYT 500 trained in Anusara Yoga. Her study of Kundalini yoga inspired her to create Heart-Based Singing, which melds the Eastern chakra system with classical bel canto vocal technique. She is the author of the book "Heart-Based Singing: Vocal Technique" and released a CD of Sanskrit Chants titled "Grace" in 2015. Her students have been accepted into prestigious programs including Curtis Institute, Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee, Eastman, and many others. She notably taught a young, pre-celebrity Katy Perry.
