Abigail Nims
About
Abigail Nims is a professional mezzo-soprano and Co-chair of Voice + Opera at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she has been on the faculty since 2013. She is regarded as a musician of integrity and versatility for her performances spanning from Monteverdi, Bach, and Mozart to Crumb, Ligeti and premieres of contemporary works. Originally from Delaware, Ohio, she holds degrees from Yale School of Music, Westminster Choir College and Ohio Wesleyan University. Prior to joining CU Boulder, she taught voice at the University of California, Berkeley and at Yale University. Nims has performed as soloist with world renowned orchestras and opera companies including the San Francisco Symphony, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Wexford Festival Opera, New York City Opera, the São Paulo Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony. Her discography includes the Grammy-nominated Il ritorno d Ulisse in patria with Boston Baroque (Linn Records, 2015). Her students have performed with prestigious organizations including LA Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, San Francisco Opera Merola Program, Central City Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and have received awards from the Richard Tucker Foundation, the Loren L. Zachary Competition, and NATS.
